Let Him Fly

about

This is a cover of the beautiful ballad originally written and performed by Patty Griffin. It was also made famous by a beautiful rendition by The Chicks back in 1996. I've always loved singing this song and was very excited to record my cover. I hope you enjoy it.

lyrics

Ain't no talkin' to this man
Ain't no pretty other side
Ain't no way to understand the stupid words of pride
It would take an acrobat and I already tried all that
So I'm gonna let him fly
(Gonna let him fly)
Things can move at such a pace
The second hand just waved goodbye
And though the light has left his face
But you can't recall just where or why
So there was really nothing to it
I just went and cut right through it
I said, I'm gonna let him fly, ooh yeah, yeah
There's no mercy in a live wire
No rest at all in freedom
Of the choices we are given
It's no choice at all, oh-huh
The proof is in the fire
You touch before it moves away, yeah
But you must always know how long to stay and when to go
And there ain't no talkin' to this man
He's been tryna tell me so
Took awhile to understand
The beauty of just letting go
'Cause it would take an acrobat and I already tried all that
I'm gonna let him fly
I'm gonna let him fly, fly, oh
I'm gonna let him fly, fly, oh
I'm gonna let him fly

Amanda Cross New York, New York

If you take the pop appeal of Miranda Lambert and Shania Twain and mix it up with the cool edge of Lana Del Rey and smart songwriting of Brandi Carlisle, that is where we find the artistry of Amanda Cross. You’ll find yourself on a ride up the PCH with “Malibu Daydream” or through a dark alley with the Hitchcockian vibes of “Phantom”, ending up at her country pop roots with “How Did I Get Here”. ... more
